MBS March 2020 - COVID-19 Second Update

24th March 2020

An additional Medicare Benefits Schedule update is now available to download from the quick downloads section (in the right sidebar)

or from the downloads section.

On top of the previous March update which included the new COVID-19 telehealth and telephone items, this update includes further items for other providers, such as midwives. 

We recommend adding the new items relevant to your health service to the MBS Shortlist.

New Communicare Reports for COVID-19 (Corona virus 2019)

23rd March 2020

To help manage the COVID-19 pandemic at your health service Communicare is providing two reports that look at the COVID-19 ICPC2 items, your pathology requests and your lab’s pathology results and presents these in a detailed and summarised form. They are necessarily generic in nature but will help to identify patients with COVID-19 related items, requests and results.

Communicare Updates for COVID-19 (Corona virus 2019)

12th March 2020

ICPC2+ have released a set of clinical terms for recording COVID-19 related information.

The following six clinical items can be imported to your Communicare database on request from the Communicare helpdesk, and they will be distributed as part of the central dataset from version 20.1

Recording pathology requests for COVID-19 (Coronavirus 2019)

Please note: the below information should not be interpreted as clinical advice, and used as a suggestion for database configuration only

The local administrator should go to File | Reference Tables | Investigations | Investigations and create suitable tests, for example:
Investigation   COVID-19, swabs  (other suggestions ‘Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), swabs’, ‘Coronavirus (COVID-19), swabs’, ‘SARS-CoV-2, swabs’)
Subtype           Microbiology

It is critical to then go to File | Reference Tables | Investigations | Investigation Keywords and create or attach suitable keywords:
COVID19, CORONAVIRUS, SARSCOV2, PCR

New Influenza Immunisation Items for 2020

12th March 2020

 Two additional influenza vaccines have been made available for the 2020 flu season:

  • Vaxigrip Tetra®
  • Fluad® Quad®

 There are two options available to enable these in Communicare:

Communicare v19.2 Now Available

3rd February 2020

 We are pleased to announce that version 19.2 of Communicare is now publicly available after successful deployment to several sites as a limited release. 

To arrange an upgrade, log in to the Communicare Client Portal and navigate to Help and Support – Forms – Upgrade Request Form or click the quick link on the home page.

We would like to extend a tremendous thank you to all sites involved in the limited release phase of version 19.2 for your time and effort. Your testing and feedback is crucial to our process of delivering a quality product.
